200 word-reviews: Crysis 2

Crysis was a brilliant looking, decent game. Crysis 2 is a terrible looking, decent game. The PC version absolutely got the shaft—the dreaded “consolization” killed the realistic environments, and simplified gameplay mechanics removing any layer of strategy to using your suit powers.

I will give it some credit, multiplayer plays pretty well...and it definitely is more dynamic then the absolutely terrible Modern Warfare 2. Singleplayer was mostly uninteresting. It wasn’t you vs. an island of Koreans (and later, aliens). It was you in a series of corridors. The Nanosuit is still sexy, gunplay is still okay, pissed that on-the-fly weapon modding is gone.

Summarily: I’d say the downs outweigh the ups. Multiplayer is definitely better then Crysis 1, singleplayer is decidedly not. Graphics are decidedly not. Functionality is decidedly not. It feels like they ripped out a good chunk of what made Crysis cool, and didn’t bother to replace it.

Is it worth it? Yes, if, and only if, you can find it cheap. Otherwise, just go play some more original Crysis
